Love Wins

Let go and paint. LET GO–love wins!  That’s what the universe keeps telling me. So I had to look at my love wins design. Oh how I love the color. Wow I am learning so much about color these days. This would look lovely on a wall. Yes I will add it to my possible art poster pile. Wonder what my fans think.

Watercolor Love Wins Poster

Yes it sure DOES!

I have started working on my book, and oh the ideas and illustrations are…well… they’ve given me lots to plan for. I’ve been drawing and with each new illustration I begin to say uh…. this doesn’t look good…BUT I finish with BIG HOPE I know deep down each time I draw I get better. That’s it!!

All I need is ideas, PRACTICE and a positive attitude.

Imagine all the impossibilities that are possible.

Note To Self

Dear Mireya,

I just don’t know where to begin. I know there’s plans to post the awesome tree you painted using art tape, but a note to self is much needed. That will happen next week. Yes your idea to create a first children’s chapter book that doubles as an art book is awesome. Can’t wait for next weeks post.

Look I believe in you and your art. Sometimes I have to say you set out to paint something awesome and then bad happens. I get that it’s hard. Keep going and just look at it as a mistake that you can learn from. The day when you FINALLY get it right seems far FAR FAR FAR away.  Get over this and get over yourself. Just paint and write the book you want to write.  So you haven’ t a clue. Then get one! How many times have you drawn letters only to walk away thinking practice isn’t enough. Maybe it’s been the wrong approach the whole time. Maybe you should THINK ABOUT WHAT your awesome at and start with that first.

Here’s a list: you can write, you can draw simple letters. YOU CAN just don’t even think about the PERFECTION kind because it may not happen. Look you need some orange in your day today and everyday.

KEEP THINGS SIMPLE and just work on projects. Embrace that your hand writing will always be a little messy. What you can’t do is settle and have this terrible attitude that your art isn’t good enough so oh well who cares. Look you painted this on an old piece of watercolor paper. You should have painted it on a blank piece. You were afraid of messing up a perfectly good piece of paper with your mistakes. Stop that. Don’t practice. Paint a masterpiece! You are thinking you don’t know how. You don’t know how to put your book together much less draw the pictures for it.

Just paint. Just write. Just get messy. Through it all, always give your absolute best–the very best you can possibly be! I have a plan. You’ll work on side projects that are all geared toward your book. Each project will include illustrations done with mixed media. This way you’ll have mini projects to help you learn as well as get that book ready. Yes it’s all happening in November. Remember that I love you and I’m your biggest fan.

The learning of a curious artist

Feel Love

Sometimes it feels like there’s so much art and not enough time. I said this before. I realize that some art interests me far more than other art. Guess it’s the story and technique I’m after. Gold Leaf in Mesopotamian art! I want to enjoy art. So I’m reading a little on each piece. If it’s a piece that has my attention, I’ll take a closer look.

I was in a book store the other day. I found a table filled with $5 books. The one filled with fairy tales called me. Yes  magical worlds and motifs.   Sounds like good inspiration for my quotes and poems. There’s something about a world  be it fairy tale or Hogwarts that’s incredible.  I love Hogwarts and the whole good versus evil. I went with the complete plays of William Shakespeare. I love the times of kings, queens and horse carriages. I want to finish reading King Lear and it’ll be better reading.

I got back to the quick draw or 5 minute draw. I love not knowing what will happen or what the piece will look like. I get an idea and go with it. In the end I may have a layout that looked better in my mind BUT, hey it’s practice. It’s going from fear to freedom.

Helping Others

The house is quiet now–good. I guess all books and draws just help me learn in a non- judgemental I can lose myself know thyself kind of way.  Wait… I need to make sure that I keep creating because that’s the best way to learn. I think next will be a great time to look at my old work and choose some favorites…

THINK of all the impossibilities that are possible.

in the art studio!  (Yes I’m here once again because you need a voice of reason.)

Dear Mireya,

Sure family calls you Myra but you’re Mireya – love the name by the way.  No- your ego doesn’t need to grow bigger, so leave it at the door.  You’re you, but everyone else is AWESOME too! Don’t forget that.

Speaking of, that’s the reason I’m here. This past week you totally let your guard down!  Just stop all the nonsense and create. It’s that simple. YES Mireya it is!  I think you know quite well that your art is awesome. Not everyone will like or understand your art. I know how art makes you feel. How free you feel to do what you want. How free you feel to be you. You spent the entire summer working on your book and learning art.  No it wasn’t a waste of time.  Yes you can draw and illustrate your book. You are close and you will publish it!  Yes you spent 4 long hours EVERY day writing but you did it.

Stop worrying about how many likes or subscribers you have or don’t have. Likes come and go. True fans are the ones who email you or give you advice. Be sure and thank them.  You’re no fool! Stop acting like one. When you pursue likes, you start to do and ACT like everybody… to get these likes.  Stick to your plan and create because you feel this need to let your passion run wild.  Just tell your story.  Come to think if it, you have some cool fans now.  STOP WORRYING in general. It’s not your job to question why some people say mean words. They do, and they will.

Mind your own business! Stop going around trying to please people, wondering how you measure up. I get that you love people and want to help. You know what’s right. Don’t drive yourself crazy and burn yourself out. Sure you said and did the best- most of the time. Other times who knows what happened? You know and he knows.  Yes you’ve made mistakes. You aren’t proud of them. Don’t be ashamed of them either. That’s your past and this is your today-your future. You have a good heart.  Sometimes your courage gets you in trouble. Courage get the gloves ready. We’re knocking out fear with one punch-or however many punches it takes. Yeah- I don’t think fear ever goes away, but you can LOVE SO MUCH that you face it period. Wise up.

It’s okay that you’re feeling burned out with all this book writing and art learning. Take care of yourself because I love you! No matter what happens I’m your light. I’ll never stop burning. We have a book children are waiting to read, and workshops fans want to be part of.  For now take your time and work on basics like watercolor washes, lettering, and just play around with ideas. Figure yourself out.  We got this! Yeah he’s got us too…. he knows…knows that it’s LOVE I’m after.

Love always, Mireya

P.S. Next week Mireya’s going to share how she creates watercolor washes. Well… they’re not all done with watercolor….are you a subscriber?

Watercolor with Food Color…

…….What? I came across this idea while guest teaching and OH  BOY am I glad! I had to try one just to make sure I knew exactly how to do it. OKAY the curiosity and passion just called my name.  I can’t believe how awesome they came out.

Supplies:

coffee liners, food coloring, droppers, cups filled with a little water, wax paper or other paper towels so the mess won’t stain the table. Oh make sure you stack a couple of liners so your paper is thicker and you’ll have less mess.

Fill the cups with a little water and add food coloring. Then fill the droppers with the food coloring mixture  and slowly give the dropper a little squeeze over the coffee liner and watch the awesomeness happen. Oh YES you can then dip the dropper in the bottle of food coloring and again watch the awesomeness happen!

Start with the lighter colors like yellow or water food coloring mixture and then go for the food coloring out of the bottle.

0912160831

Got a little crazy but it’s all good.

09121608431

Even the paper meant to help with the mess has an awesome texture. So cool right!

Look at the awesome fall trees the kids made!

0912161201a0912161201b0912161201cYes there was a mess but we KIDS had a blast!

Just look at the clean up napkins! Yes one of us spilled the bottle of food coloring but look what happened!
