I’d Rather Write With a Lipstick

I like to wear lipstick BUT there’s something incredible that happens when I write with a lipstick. I’ve done this before with an AVON lip balm a long time ago –out of pure curiosity.

There’s something about the texture that I love. Look at the chunk pieces and the color! I’m in love. Well more in love.

Seems crazy to want to write with a lipstick.  Or does it? One day in a classroom, I found this perfect shade of lipstick- only it was paint.  This lipstick idea popped in my head again and here we are. I used variations of red and pink. Oh I love the color. Which by the way isn’t easily noticeable, but if you look closely the beauty’s there.

At first I felt this urgency.  I was on a lunch break and literally only 5 minutes left. I made a few mistakes. Wait these little mistakes are fabulous- for the point I’m making. Is pretty perfect? No! We sometimes allow ourselves to be fooled by photoshop. In my case all the little perfect imperfections created by my brush.  Let’s move on to the real topic here.

Beauty is on the inside. That beauty shines through so bright on the outside. Yes lipstick helps you shine brighter. Nothing wrong with that. At a first glance this is messy and not necessarily pretty or beautiful. Then I kept looking at the color and the brush strokes here and there. That was BEAUTIFUL! That brought me to this whole notion of what beauty is. We see with our eyes and that can blind us.

A few days later I saved a lifeless tube of lip gloss. Again the color is off but that’s okay. I just bought a scanner. I now have and awesome idea to keep me practicing!

All this led to this quote. Obviously, this is a rough sketch

everything is possible.

Be so good they can’t ignore you.

I remember Pink, the singer, mention this once. What a cool magazine interview! What was it like to climb to the top and succeed…as if there’s some magic formula. Pink answered,”   I knocked on the door so many times that eventually they just had to let me in. Okay so I can’t remember the exact words but I love them. A few days ago I was minding my own business working on some art and listening to a podcast. what happens? I here the words BE SO GOOD THEY CAN’T IGNORE YOU. That’s genius except for one problem. How do I do that? What is good! Good is awesome. Good is like no one  else. Good is kind and respectful.

I must be original and whatever that original is do it with all my heart. Yes,  put ME in every single piece of art. I mean create the art  that wows me and the art that just slaps me in the face leaving me dumbfounded and utterly in love with life.Okay so forget the slap here but it just sounds perfect to describe the moment when something just shockingly warms you, and you just can’t part ways with it!

You look at this idea and this art and feel it because it’s a real story. There’s no explaining why  with rules. I mean… you know that artist who is so cool?  There not even trying to be cool, they just are. Their art is awesome and when you ask them about it,  they say, I just had tons of practice that’s all. They are so good because they have mastered the art of telling their story.

This past holiday  we crafted a Santa cone. Here’s mine.

What’s interesting is, I colored as I know Santa-the traditional Santa.  The problem with this is well,   I looked around the room. I  thought how cool all these Santa’s are! I saw the smiles and the good time we were having in every cone.  I thought of  artists who don’t have the courage to draw as they choose.  Somewhere in these thoughts are what make every awesome story. No matter how crazy or different  our version is, it will be awesome so long as it’s our story. Is this not what fascinates me when I listen to a song I’m obsessed with or a book. Heck Yes!

Each cone is different, but all have character.  An artist’s best work comes the moment he or she learns to let go, and paint with the heart.  I just got through reading about Frida. Her art is amazing! Her life story is right there on every masterpiece. Ask your favorite artist and they will no doubt tell you the same thing.Listen to the origin of their art.

Back to the Santa project…I love how we all used different tools and color. Should have taken a group picture.

Here’s the awesome idea! I have a blank canvas that everyone is dying to see.  I have and awesome story to tell. The projects I’ve been working on are a great way to end this year. Hang in there Myra. You’ve got this! Hold on because your letters are changing and getting way better. Imagine what they’ll look like next year and so on! You have awesome ideas!  Choose to show up everyday. Nothing compares to hands on practice. Keep showing up!

Yes I like my ideas. The ideas that just pop in my head. YES these ideas jut pop in my head but in my mine are years and years of reading and listening. In my head are thousands of ideas that come from the heart. Yes I was born to be an artist!

I’m going to relax and take a vacation. On my vacation I’ll think about the top 10 ideas that have made a difference this year. Maybe I’ll make a video about it and share it with my friends.  I’m making a list and checking it twice for new ideas to try. I can’t wait to fill up my diary with all of them.I’ll  be back Jan. 6th.

Merry Christmas!

Watercolor Letters

I painted this using the wet on wet technique. You basically take your watered bush and draw your letters. Then you dip the brush in paint and tap the inside of the letter and let the paint fall where it will. It will adhere to the wet area. Aside from being fun to watch, lettering comes out so beautiful.  I did blend the colors here and there a little bit. The letters don’t look too bad-well the i needs work. The key is to use just enough water. No worries it takes practice.

Here’s another Hi. This time I added a big blob of paint in the middle of the h and this time I used liquid paint. No blending needed

I also love the thank you. Very cool! The more you practice the better chance you have of doing a great job. I know the baseline to these words is not straight but I love how the words fit together.

If you love what I did here then just wait till you see what I do with a metallic crayon and watercolor. Oh yeah!

Day 5 School Days

words: table and pencil

Who do you think lives here? I was thinking maybe a tiny little mouse. No a tiny little bear. I remember reading a cute picture book. The characters had such furniture. Its just a fun idea. This would be awesome for a writing prompt or a discussion.

Let’s Go Back to The Good Days…

in school.

supplies: For this 10 daily doodle challenge I will be working with a pencil and paper. I may add in some paint and who knows.

Words: I will pull out two words from separate lists:  I need practice in drawing simple objects-list one.  The theme for this challenge is school-list two.  So let’s go.

Today’s words are whiteboard and tea set

Thoughts: (Oh darn a piece of lead in between the s and t- oh well its a sketch.)

In school we always have to look at the whiteboard and pay attention. Teachers are ALWAYS telling us to pay attention. What if the lesson is boring?

I can’t tell you how many boring so called motivational posters I have seen. I would sure love to see this one in my class. Or excuse me would have. I think about all the times that I was bored in class with textbook work . BUT,  I had plenty of times that transported me to a new world where my curiosity and imagination filled with spunk. I believe that is where you learn the most. This is how the magic of truly understanding the subject happens. It’s the kind of learning that drives you bonkers and changes your life forever. Right?

So yes look and listen but GO and do with such purpose that you lose yourself.  In losing yourself can you really find yourself. Does this make sense? What a fun conversation! So go for an adventure in a book, if math is hard then keep trying and find a way for it to make sense. Ask questions.  Be proactive! Remember that there are no impossibilities.

I think I found my signature

Swim & Flow

swim flow

You have to put yourself out there and Swim and just keep swimming. You also have to enjoy every moment of it and flow. Flow like the easy breezy current. Flow without a care in the world. Flow like you always know that we are all the same. I mean sure you and I are different but that’s what makes me awesome. Yes you are awesome too and that is the point. This is what I wanted to capture in this painting. It’s like the 5th time I paint this idea. My idea gets better every time!

I love LOVE art and love sharing with you. I will be taking a week off to really work on my blog. I will be working on my art of course, but just need some time to swim and flow. I need to really think about my blog and give it the voice and professionalism it deserves. I write from the heart. I draw from the heart. I just want to let the kid play. I named this blog little lemonade for the spirit of playing and putting up a lemonade stand.  Remember that. I want to go back to a simpler time filled with the drawing and painting.  I appreciate the club and how we have grown. I appreciate every one of you!

I will be back August 8th. I will start with the school days lettering series.

I will have a short post next week on the updates and a little preview of what’ s to come.

Thanks see you friends!

Gosh Darn It!

Supplies: Windsor paint and crayola Size 1 cottman brush

Oh boy this brush is my best friend in the whole world right now!! You see all along I have been practicing details with a size 0 and the results were a big sad face.  I mean okay they were not that bad, but then I bought this brush!  I painted some textures for a texture class and doodled letters.  I have even practiced color mixing and it’s amazing!! The point is I was using the wrong brush! I can’t say it enough you have to practice and try and try again. Step out of your comfort zone and just play….COME ON KID PLAY. If your an artist come on try a new tool. If you simply read for fun then what are you waiting for get out there and try something new. You sing but are shy to do it in public. Do it!

I did make a mess last week with eyeshadow.  Yes you read right. I love love the texture.

Last week I shared my influence map and this week I am just having fun drawing and playing really! More about that later. I am also heading to the Sawdust Festival on Friday. I have lots of fun ideas that I have painted and will be painting.  I will be sharing with you.  Paint along with me.

See you.
